Adoption Program
The Hermitage's Eminently Adoptable Cats
The shelter has many beautiful, healthy cats that are readily adoptable and need loving homes. You can feel good knowing that adopting a cat from The Hermitage is a rewarding way to save the lives of two cats! Not only are your directly giving the cat you are adopting a home for the rest of his/her life, you also open up a space that allows the shelter to take in another needy waif.
Special needs cats are adopted by special people.
In addition to our eminently adoptable cats and kittens, our FIV+ and feline leukemia cats are looking for homes too! They just need to be the only cat in the home or go to a home where the other cats also have the same condition.
There are many lovely cats in the SO area (urinary tract problem) that crave attention; these cats just require a special diet to maintain their health and prevent urinary crystals.
We also have special needs cats that have a lot of love to give, but require someone with extra patience. There are senior cats looking for quiet, stable homes and black cats who are usually skipped over by adopters.
How does the Adoption Program work?
- Come to the shelter between 1 pm and 4 pm on Monday, Thursday or Friday; or 11 am to 4 pm on weekends (except for New Year's, Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day).
- You will be given a guided tour, during which you are introduced to the cats.
- If you and one (or more) of our feline residents bond, you may fill out an application for adoption.
- Upon approval you can take your lifetime friend(s) home!
* If any problems develop (health or other), the shelter should be called for assistance or advice.
* If the adoption does not work, the cat should be returned to The Hermitage.
Fees (non-refundable)

To the best of our knowledge, the cats that we adopt out are in good health. You receive full information about any treatments given to the cat(s) you adopt.
Our adoption fee only partially covers the routine cost of healthcare that we provide for each cat we take in. Depending on the age and state of health of the cat, the list of services above would cost $200 - $250 at most local veterinary clinics.
